Shashi DebShashikala “Shashi” Deb is a legal educator, researcher, and institutional leader with a longstanding commitment to legal education and the preparation of future lawyers. She served as an Adjunct Professor at UC Law San Francisco (formerly UC Hastings) for a decade, teaching foundational courses including Legal Writing and Research, Moot Court, and Critical Studies I.

Shashi is a research fellow at UC Law SF’s LexLab and AI Institute, conducting research on the legal industry’s use of AI, emerging best practices, and guiding principles for responsible implementation. She partners with faculty and program directors on curriculum development and helped launch the UC Law AI Advisory Board on Technological Transformation of Legal Practice and Legal Education.

Prior to her focus on legal education, Shashi was an IP litigation associate at Cooley Godward and Morgan Lewis. After transitioning out of corporate law, Shashi devoted her time to expanding access to quality education and healthcare in the Bay Area, issues she witnessed firsthand while raising her three daughters and volunteering at schools and organizations in her community. She serves on the boards of UC Law SF, the UC Berkeley Foundation, Tipping Point, and Legal Link. Shashi has a JD from UC Law SF and received a BA in Political Economy from UC Berkeley.

Shashi and her husband DJ live in Hillsborough, California with their two doodles Loan and Luna. They are the proud parents of three daughters who all attended Stanford. In her free time, Shashi loves hiking with the dogs, trying out new music festivals and concerts, and delving into the latest literary fiction.
