Feline Veterinarian
Fredericksburg, Virginia
Kathleen Huntsman is the founder of a feline veterinary hospital in her hometown of Fredericksburg, Virginia, where she has spent more than three decades caring for cats and the people who love them.
Throughout her career, Kathy built a practice grounded in kindness and compassionate clinical medicine, developing close relationships with the families she serves. She sees herself not only as a clinician but also as a coach and teacher, partnering with clients to help them understand their cats’ needs and confidently provide care at home. Kathy also enjoys mentoring young staff members, many of whom are in their first job, helping them grow in confidence and professionalism.
Kathy earned her Bachelor of Science from Duke University and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech. Now that her two adult children are recently married and beginning their own families, she welcomes this opportunity to focus on her own next chapter.
At DCI, Kathy looks forward to connecting with fellow members of the cohort and reflecting on how her lessons from a life in veterinary medicine might guide her engagement with the principles of One Health and the interconnected well-being of animals, people, and the environment we share. She hopes to discover new interests and be surprised by what she learns about herself along the way.
In her free time, Kathy enjoys sailing and spending time on the Chesapeake Bay with its blue herons, bald eagles, and yummy blue crabs.
