Tony Stayner

Tony Stayner is the Founder and Managing Director of the Excelsior Impact Fund, a multi-family charitable fund that invests across the returns continuum to create the world we want for future generations. The Fund is focused on water, sustainability, opportunity equity, and a healthy democracy with an eye toward system change. He believes that using the power of markets to help solve our most pressing problems is vastly underutilized and is fascinated by the intersection between business and philanthropy.

Tony is a partner at SV2 and a member of Forward Global and of the Toniic T100 impact investor network. He has used his experience as a Silicon Valley software executive to mentor numerous social entrepreneurs around the world typically in the water and sanitation sector.

He is a Board Member of Water.org (using finance to catalyze access to safe water and sanitation) and Stroke Onward (redefining the care standard for stroke survivors to include emotional support to rebuild their identities toward a rewarding life). He is also on TNC’s California Leadership Council.

Tony’s MBA is from Stanford’s GSB and JD is from UC Berkeley’s Law School. He attended Harvard Law School during his third year, where he taught an environmental economics course to undergraduates. Tony graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a BA in Economics and Mathematics from UC Davis.

He lives in San Mateo, CA with his wife Beth Cross. Their daughter (Stanford BA ’19) is Stanford GSB ’26 and another son (Stanford BS ’17, MS ’21) also lives locally.
