Former Journalist
New York, NY

David LewisDavid Lewis spent more than 40 years in journalism as a reporter, editor, producer, writer and director, in newspapers, on television and the web, in radio and as a documentary filmmaker.

His first job out of college was changing the ribbons in the wire machines on the overnight shift at ABC News. His last job was as Investigations Editor at New York Public Radio, the largest public radio station in the country.

In between, he wrote for the New York Daily News, produced pieces for Ed Bradley at “60 Minutes” and led WNYC’s nationally recognized coverage of the deadly COVID-19 outbreak in the nation’s largest city. He and his teams won dozens of national and local awards over the years, including a DuPont, a Polk and multiple SPJ awards for public service journalism.

Throughout his career, Lewis nurtured an abiding interest in the relationship between language and truth. He began as a Writing major at Hamilton College in upstate New York, where he was a campus poet and earned a minor in Philosophy.

Lewis has lived his entire adult life in the five boroughs of New York City, mostly on the island of Manhattan. He and his spouse, Anne Ackerley, have been married for 37 years; they have two adult children and one grandchild. So far. Lewis is an avid photographer and art collector, loves the outdoors and the ocean, and is constantly working to improve his pool game.
