Steven Schatz practiced law for 50 years, the last 39 years as a senior litigation partner at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati specializing in shareholder disputes and financial fraud matters. He currently teaches Securities and Corporate Governance Litigation at Berkeley Law School. He also joined FedArb as a mediator/arbitrator and serves on the Dean’s Council of Columbia Law School.
At Wilson, he provided counseling to boards of directors and senior management on sensitive confidential matters and was lead counsel in some of the firm’s most significant matters including HP’s merger with Compaq and numerous other highly visible cases. He also served in multiple leadership positions including the firm’s Executive, Policy, and Investment Committees as well as Chair of Compensation and Litigation.
Steve served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of New York where his successful jury trials included the prosecution of the former manager of the Beatles.
Steve received his BA from Penn and a JD from Columbia where he served as senior editor of the Law Review. He then clerked for Walter Mansfield of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. He testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee on securities reform and served as President of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers.
Steve served as Co-Chair of Lawyers for Hillary Clinton (her first run), was active in Amy Klobuchar’s campaign and served on the Democratic Party’s Rules Committee.
Steve is married to his DCI Partner Lisa and has three children. They split their time between Atherton and Carmel, California.
