Mary Cranston is the former CEO and Chair Emeritus of Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP. She was elected to three successive terms as the Chair and CEO of this Global 100 law firm, which has 2000 employees in 16 offices worldwide.
She is currently a member of the boards of TPG Capital, Chemours, and GoHealth Urgent Care. She has also served on numerous other boards including VISA, AAA Insurance, Juniper Networks, Myokardia, and McAfee.
Mary served as a Trustee of Stanford University from 2000 to 2010. She has also been President of the Stanford Alumni Association, Chair of the Board of the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford, and Chair of the Stanford Law School Board of Visitors. She has served as a Director of the Commonwealth Club of California, and as the Chair of the Club from 2006 to 2009. She has been a Director of Catalyst since 2006.
She is the recipient of the Margaret Brent Award, the American Bar Association’s highest award for lifetime achievement to a woman lawyer, demonstrating extraordinary commitment to the advancement of women. Mary was inducted into the Bay Area Business Hall of Fame in December 2023. She was named on the of the 100 most influential and effective corporate directors in the United States by the National Association of Corporate Directors.
Mary has a JD from Stanford Law School, an MA in Educational Psychology from UCLA, and a BA in Political Science from Stanford University.
