Former Papal Spokesman

Greg Burke has worked for 40 years in journalism and public relations. The former spokesman for Pope Francis, he also developed strategic communications for the Vatican and worked as Director of Communications at IESE Business School in Barcelona and Madrid.
A native of St. Louis, Missouri, Greg has spent most of his life abroad, primarily in Italy. He worked as a correspondent in Rome for more than 20 years, first as bureau chief for Time Magazine and then for Fox News. He covered breaking news stories and conflicts from Afghanistan and Pakistan to South Africa. Greg was dispatched frequently to the Mideast, especially Israel and Lebanon, where he covered the entire war in the summer of 2006.
After leaving journalism, Greg worked as a Senior Advisor in the Vatican Secretariat of State, developing strategic communications for the Holy See and coordinating the Pope’s Twitter account. He then served as deputy spokesman, and later chief spokesman for Pope Francis.
Greg received a Bachelor’s degree from Columbia College in Comparative Literature, and has a Master’s degree from the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism. He lives in Madrid and teaches communications at IESE Business School in both Barcelona and Madrid, specializing in public speaking, crisis communications, and dealing with media. Greg is an avid sports fan, and he has written a book on Italian soccer, Parma: Notes from a Year in Serie A.
