Vice-President, Board of Directors, Grupo Vips; Chairman of the Board, Ashoka
After a one year experience at the Actor’s Studio under Lee Strasberg straight out of college, Maite Arango began her career in the retail sector, working for Macy’s in the United States before joining the family business, Grupo Vips, a Spanish leading multi-brand and multi-format company in the food service and retail sector.
At Grupo Vips, Maite first ran the retail division, Vips Stores, a pioneering business model which quickly became a reference for importing and introducing new trends and selected goods into the Spanish market.
Beyond her impact on the business success, Maite also actively contributed to build the strong reputation of the Group, always working closely with the HR teams and focusing especially in two main areas: incentive programs and corporate responsibility.
In 2003 she launched and ran the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy for the company, implementing an innovative and ambitious vision in this field by defining clear corporate commitments mainly focused on sustainability and social impact. The company’s CSR activity has been recognized for more than fifteen years as a cutting edge model and has become a reference in the Spanish corporate world.
At the same time, Maite actively engaged with key CSR corporate and non-profit stakeholders to foster the CSR footprint and its relevancy, both at business and society levels.
Maite’s commitment for real change-maker projects has led her to create and be part of several social innovation initiatives. She is currently actively involved with national and global projects and foundations such as Ashoka, of which she chairs the Spanish Board and with which she collaborates at a global level. She is passionate about systems change.
Maite holds a Bachelor of Arts from Scripps College (Claremont, California) and is the mother of Juan, a recent graduate of Georgetown University.
