Co-Founder, former President and CEO, Access Health
Boulder, CO

Joe was most recently Co-Founder, President and CEO of Access Health, a health care services company that developed, patented and utilized triage algorithms and a variety of other clinical guidelines and systems to better manage the health care of large populations. The company grew from a concept through several venture rounds to a listing on NASDAQ, until its acquisition by McKesson. As an example, the pediatric triage algorithms were translated and used as the front end for the public health care system for children in Portugal, while the full suite of algorithms was used to front the health care system of New Zealand. The same algorithms were used to provide access to one of our clinical partners, the Mayo Clinic. The Company’s InterQual guidelines were used to conduct pre-certifications for care in over 50% of all such interactions annually. Prior to Access Health, Joe had founded another health services company and also a company importing Italian skiwear into the US.

Joe graduated in 1973 from West Point with a BS in Engineering with Honors, was the highest ranking cadet during his senior year, and lettered in two varsity sports. After graduation, he served as an Infantry officer in an Airborne Ranger unit in Northern Italy, at which time he left active duty and attended the Stanford Graduate School of Business receiving an MBA in 1982. He and his wife, Liz Snowden, enjoy the Colorado outdoors, cooking, travel (especially Italy) and time with a family of five children and a growing group of grandchildren.
