Richard Royse spent the last half of his professional working career in investment banking and brokerage, first at Kidder Peabody and then at Smith Barney in Portland, Oregon. Mr. Royse worked at Smith Barney for 17 years, a period of enormous growth in the financial services industry. Smith Barney became a wholly owned subsidiary of Citigroup and Mr. Royse served as general manager through multiple acquisitions. He and his partner lived briefly in Australia where he was on due diligence assignment for Citigroup.
Prior to entering the investment business Mr. Royse spent 16 years in higher education administration, including international admissions at the University of Southern California, and student housing, university development and student affairs at the University of Chicago. Since retiring from the investment business, Mr. Royse’s principal interests have included the cultural arts, homelessness, donor development, and health care. He served on the Board of Trustees of Oregon Health and Science University for eight years and currently serves on the Alumni Council of the Stanford University Master of Liberal Arts (MLS) program.
Mr. Royse holds AB and MS degrees from the University of Southern California, an MBA from the University of Chicago and, most recently, a Master of Liberal Arts degree (2014) from Stanford University where his thesis explored the early beginnings of the US public health service.
Mr. Royse resides with his partner, Rocky Blumhagen, in San Francisco and Gleneden Beach, Oregon.
