Donna Akerson is Board Secretary for LOVE ACTIVISTS, an educational social justice and mindfulness curriculum/media production program for children at risk for toxic stress and trauma. Donna provided leadership in bringing this nascent organization to incorporation and non-profit status. As Managing Director for Deloitte Consulting Healthcare Practice, she led large electronic health record system implementations, operations and process design, clinical transformation, digital hospital planning, interdisciplinary clinical content development, and culture change management engagements for large academic medical systems. Prior to Deloitte, Donna’s career spanned three areas of expertise. First, she had deep clinical and operations experience as a Chief Operating Officer for a 3-facility New York City health system and a Chief Nursing Officer for Bellevue, a 1200-bed hospital in New York City. Second, Donna had 10 years leading clinical software design teams with Siemens. Third, Donna applied these skills to consulting experience with Coopers & Lybrand and later with BearingPoint (KPMG), both in New York City.
Donna has a BS and a MS in Nursing from the University of Maryland and a MBA. in Information Systems from the Stern School of Business, New York University. She was associate faculty at New York University Graduate School of Nursing and has been a frequent speaker at professional conferences.
Donna has eight children and 14 grandchildren. She served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for Children (CASA) for four years. Donna now lives with Charles on a sailboat, spending the past two years in Guatemala, enjoys zydeco dancing, downhill skiing, gardening, interior design, quilting and couture sewing.
