Thomas Gilliss is an attorney in private practice. With over 40 years’ experience practicing law at various times in Washington, D.C., Maryland, Connecticut and California, his practice has focused on Real Estate, Corporate and General Business law. His work for U.S. and foreign clients has included: (1) the formation, operation, finance and taxation of for-profit and nonprofit entities; (2) business mergers and acquisitions; (3) real estate acquisition, finance, leasing, development, construction and management; (4) technology development, use and licensing; (5) hotel ownership and operations; (6) liquidation of assets of failed banks under the federal government’s Resolution Trust Corporation program; and (7) bank acquisition, operations, regulatory compliance and divestiture. He has extensive experience as a business agent and asset manager for foreign clients acquiring and holding real estate and private equity investments in the U.S.
Gilliss’ community activities, apart from his law practice, have included: (1) director and vice president, William C. Kuzell Foundation, a medical research group; (2) director and vice president, National Society to Prevent Blindness; (3) director and president, San Francisco School Volunteers; (4) director, Central North Carolina Chapter of the American Red Cross; (5) director, San Pablo (California) Bank; and (6) president, Amherst Alumni Association of Northern California.
He holds a BA from Amherst College and a JD from The Catholic University of America.
