Madeline Stein received her bachelor’s degree in history from Arcadia University in 1968 and an MA from the Stanford School of Education in 1972.
Madeline, an active fundraiser and community volunteer, has served as President of the boards of the Children’s Health Council, the Palo Alto Community Fund, and the Gamble Garden Center. She was a board member of Bay Area Cancer Connections and the Tech Museum and served as a Trustee of Arcadia University for nine years. She is a recipient of the Tall Tree Award, presented to the Outstanding Citizen of Palo Alto.
At Stanford University, she served as the first Chair of the School of Education Advisory Council, a member of the National Advisory Board of the Haas Center for Public Service and founding Vice Chair of the Center for Philanthropy and Civil Society. Additionally, Madeline was the co-chair of Cosby on Campus, an event that celebrated teaching and teachers and netted $1,250,000 to support graduate scholarships at STEP (Stanford Teaching and Education Program). Madeline received the Governor’s Award for exemplary service to Stanford and with her husband, Isaac, she received the John W. Gardner Visionary Award from Pathways Hospice.
Madeline and Isaac live in Atherton, California. They are the parents of a son (Dartmouth BA ’95, Stanford M.B.A. ’99) and daughter, (Princeton BA ’97, Stanford M.A. ’02 (Education), M.B.A. ’02). The Stein family, with four amazing grandchildren, also includes their son-in-law and daughter-in-law.
