Scott Baker is an accomplished trial attorney, law firm leader and international arbitrator with expertise in intellectual property (IP) and complex business litigation. He has been practicing law for 40+ years, spending the last 17 years as a Partner at Reed Smith, a global law firm of 1400+ attorneys. Scott has handled landmark cases which helped shape the US and global IP landscape. Representative clients include Siemens, BASF, Box, Korean government (ETRI), Sony Computer, and Greg Norman. As an arbitrator, he has presided over technology disputes seated in the US, Korea and Japan involving all types of innovation.
Throughout his career, Scott has been active in law firm leadership (20 year tenure on Executive Committees), recruiting, mentoring, and team building. He has been recognized by a number of legal publications; he was most proud to receive his firm’s “Shaw’s Lion Award” for the partner making the most outstanding contribution to the firm.
Hailing from Omaha, Nebraska , Scott moved to California for law school and never left. He graduated Order of the Coif from the University of California, Hastings College of Law and received his BA in Philosophy from Brown University. He currently serves as a Director on the Board of TechnoServe, a non-profit focused on eradicating poverty in the developing world. He was also a founding member of the Scleroderma Research Foundation.
Scott and his wife Sandy have three adult children and four grandchildren. Scott and Sandy seek adventures-the most recent include treks of Kilimanjaro, the Haute Route and Patagonia. Scott is an avid tennis player, downhill skier, and golfer.
