Terry Eakin is the co-founder and chairman emeritus of EYA, LLC, a builder of urban sales housing in the Washington, DC metro area. The company was started in 1992 as Eakin/Youngentob Associates, Inc. and has a brand promise of “Life Within Walking Distance.” EYA was chosen as “America’s Best Builder” in both 2000 and 2009 by the National Association of Home Builders and Builder Magazine. In the early growth stages of EYA Terry received an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award and in 2009 he received the Lifetime Achievement Grand Award from the combined DC, Virginia, and Maryland Building Industry Associations.
Among other community involvements, Terry has served as a board member for several public education reform organizations including the Washington DC Committee on Public Education, the DC Charter School Resource Center, DC Prep Public Charter Schools, and recently The Learning Alliance in Vero Beach, Florida. As the founding chair (2002 – 2017) of DC Prep, Terry helped the school to expand to five campuses serving almost 2000 urban students and to become the highest performing charter management organization in Washington, DC.
Terry graduated from Princeton University and received an MBA from Stanford GSB. Terry and his wife, Lindsay, have four grown children and seven grandchildren. Terry and Lindsay spend time in Bethesda, Maryland; Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts; Vero Beach, Florida; and Deer Valley, Utah. Terry enjoys being with his grandchildren, skiing and playing golf, tennis, and bridge.
