Former President, The Charles River Alliance
Boston, MA

Active in the financial services industry for 30 years, Richard (Rick) founded businesses specializing in management compensation, benefit, and retirement strategies and estate and gift planning, using insurance and investment products for implementation. During his career he chaired numerous financial services industry and association boards, in addition to being President of the New York Life Charitable Giving Advisory Board.

Since 2000 much of his time has been devoted to community service and non-profit board leadership, primarily in the arts, mental health, and the environment. Some of his many accomplishments included overseeing the construction of a major art museum designed by David Chipperfield; instituting a novel school-based therapy and counseling program now serving thousands of elementary school children; and heading a PGA golf tournament charity program which won national acclaim on the US PGA Tour.

Rick recently led efforts to coordinate the use and development of the public spaces along the Charles River Basin in Boston. Currently he serves on the Board of Trustees of the Nature Conservancy of Iowa and a private environmental foundation serving Central America and North America.

Rick has an MBA from Stanford University and a BA in Latin American Studies from Princeton University. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He is married to Ann Spence, whom he has known for over 50 years, and he has two adult children living in Las Vegas and Paris, along with seven grandchildren.
