MNelsonIn his 25 year career as a commercial lawyer working from offices in New York City, Jakarta and Singapore, Mark Nelson advised multinational corporations, private equity investors and financial advisors on acquisitions, divestitures, restructurings, joint ventures, privatizations and other projects. He also advised issuers, underwriters and other corporate and banking clients in connection with corporate finance transactions, project development, project finance and other commercial bank finance. His legal practice was Pan-Asian in its coverage, but he specialized in transactional work in Indonesia.

Mark was the Managing Partner of Latham & Watkins’ Singapore office from 2002 through 2010. Mark had previously established and managed the first Jakarta office for Coudert Brothers in 1992.

Since retiring in 2011, Mark has maintained his home in Singapore where he has counseled ‘family offices’ of several clients on investment and philanthropic activities. He and his wife, Margrit, have also traveled and studied in Europe, exploring its history, politics and art after a professional lifetime spent living and traveling in Asia.

Before attending law school, Mark worked and lived in Indonesia as an English teacher and administrator with Volunteers in Asia (VIA), a Stanford-based volunteer program, and as a project officer with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

Mark received a BA in International Relations from Stanford in 1979 and a JD from Columbia in 1986.
