Kate Jerome is an award-winning children’s book author and a passionate science literacy advocate. Kate has been engaging young readers with break-through educational materials for more than 30 years — as both the president of a major publishing company and a trail-blazing entrepreneur.

Kate discovered the world of educational publishing in 1981 when she joined Chicago area’s Scott Foresman and Company as an entry-level editor. Kate’s creative vision and leadership skills generated a stream of market-leading programs — from science and health to reading and math. As a result, Kate advanced rapidly through the organization and, in 1993, was named President of Scott Foresman, simultaneously serving as a Senior Vice-President on HarperCollins Publisher’s Executive Board in New York.

In 2001 she launched her own business to further her mission as an author and developer of effective learning systems. Since its inception, Kate has created a range of innovative series–writing more than 200 books and crafting motivating online material — in collaboration with leading educational and trade publishers such as National Geographic, Penguin, and TeacherVision (www.katejerome.com). Her body of work, including Spanish and Chinese translations, has influenced millions of K-12 students.

In 2016 Kate began focusing on intergenerational connections. Her 2016 TEDx talk and her latest award-winning children’s book series were both designed to encourage conversations between generations and she actively promotes the issue as a National Board Member of Reading Partners as well as a Director Emeritus Board Member of the South Carolina Aquarium.

Kate currently resides in Los Altos, CA. She holds a B.S. in Education from Miami University with a major in biological sciences and a minor in environmental sciences.
