David is currently an active investor, primarily in residential real estate. He has focused on curating a portfolio of properties featuring great views in San Francisco.

In 1983, he became a Sloan Fellow at the Stanford GSB and entered executive search and leadership assessment. In 1989, he founded Chartwell Partners International, which served private equity firms and public companies nationwide, recruiting CEOs and other senior management. Chartwell was acquired in 1999 by Monster.com. David subsequently taught as a guest fellow in the Stanford GSB Leadership Development Program.

Earlier in his career, David moved between Wall Street and Washington. He began practicing international law on Wall Street, then moved to Washington to become Associate General Counsel of HUD. He subsequently joined Lehman Brothers, then returned to the government to become Deputy Commissioner of the Federal Housing Administration. In 1976, he was appointed by President Ford to be President of Ginnie Mae. After the election of President Carter, he returned to Wall Street as a Partner of Lepercq de Neuflize & Co. where he participated in the creation of the first conventional mortgage backed securities. In 1981, he was recruited to Fannie Mae as Executive Vice President of Policy and Planning, where he developed its successful turnaround strategy.

David has served as a director of several public and private corporations, in financial services, real estate and the fashion industry. His philanthropic activities have centered on education.

He holds degrees from Dartmouth College, AB; University of Virginia School of Law, JD; and Stanford Graduate School of Business, MS in Management.

He and his wife, Katherine have 4 children.
