Nick Carter is a music teacher, singer and songwriter, who entered music education in 1999, after 21 years in marketing and communications for financial services firms. Until his recent retirement, Nick shared his life-long passion for music with students at The Stanwich School, Greenwich, Connecticut, where he developed its upper-elementary music program as well as its band and orchestra programs. He also created and taught a popular high school-level music history course. Nick’s on-going work with students today encompasses private instruction in percussion, guitar, and in helping students form rock bands.
No stranger to performance, Nick grew up playing drums and acoustic guitar. In high school and college he sang in glee clubs, barbershop quartets, rock bands and musical theater. In recent years, he has performed both as a soloist and in numerous folk and rock music ensembles. A perennial student of guitar, blue grass, folk and Americana styles, Nick is also an active songwriter, currently recording a catalog of original music. He studies circle singing and vocal improvisation in an annual, weeklong workshop under renowned jazz vocalist, Bobby McFerrin. Nick also performs frequently for Musicians on Call, a volunteer organization that offers live music to patients in area hospitals.
Nick is a graduate of Lafayette College with an A.B. degree in History. He completed the State of Connecticut Alternate Route to Education certification and other music education coursework at State University of New York (SUNY) at Purchase and Manhattanville College.
Nick and his wife Sue live in Riverside, Connecticut. They have two adult children.
