Carl Johnson is an experienced consumer packaged goods executive with a career that has involved C-suite leadership for some of the world’s most iconic brands at Colgate-Palmolive, Polaroid, Kraft Foods and Campbell Soup Company.
In his most recent role as Executive Vice President, Marketing and Chief Growth Officer for Big Heart Pet Brands, he managed $1.9 billion in sales and $400M EBIT. Prior to this position, as EVP, Brands, Del Monte Foods, he played a key role in turning around the business and in the sale of the human foods portfolio of Del Monte Foods to Del Monte Pacific. Upon this divestiture, he led efforts to rename the remaining Pet Food & Snacks business as a new company, led organizational improvements and drove established brand growth and launched award-winning new products, resulting in the strong performance that contributed to the successful sale of the business to J.M. Smucker in 2015.
Carl currently serves as Chairman of the Board for Nautilus, Inc., the fitness equipment pioneer. He also served as the only independent board member of Avedro, a private company commercializing a revolutionary new vision correction technology from 2010 to 2015 preparing for an IPO.
Carl holds an MBA from the University of Chicago and a BA from Wesleyan University. He serves as steering committee member for the University of Chicago Booth Graduate School of Business Kilts Marketing Center and as an Executive Committee member of the External Advisory Board of the UC Davis Agricultural Sustainability Institute.
